Introduction to Alternate Worlds Publishing

How did AWP get started?

AWP was started to publish Alternate Worlds Role-Playing Game. AWRPG is the culmination of 30 years of experience in RPGs.

Believing that Pen-and-Paper, or "Table-Top", RPGs were never really going to go away as a hobby I decided to finish the project I started in 1979. AWRPG is the grandchild of that project.

Not wanting to present the "low end" of the market in the form of a "fan based" PDF nor wanting to produce what I believe is an expensive and needless glossy, full color "coffee-table" RPG I settled on producing the kinds of games I fell in love with. Simply made and under 130 pages these books were full of information and style, but where inexpensive.

Knowing there was no publisher that would ever do that I decided to become that publisher.

When did AWP get started?

As a matter of fact it was started on the First of April, 2008... yep, April Fools Day.

I did this believing I was NOT being a fool, but only time will tell.

What is AWP's direction?

Forward. Always Forward.

Truthfully, AWP is not a big Publishing House. It is a simple publisher dedicated, currently, to AWRPG alone.

The future is always open, but there are no plans to "dive in" to the D20 line, or any other line. Like Steve Jackson Games and Palladium we are going to concentrate on producing an in-house system in order to not just control its features and nature, but because anyone who tries to make too many tools at once ends up burning their irons: Too Many Irons In The Fire. We would rather make sure each of our tools are up to the standards we want from a game, not what most are willing to settle for.
